Avoid unexpected connections
Check the network shown on your phone
Your phone normally selects the strongest available signal without asking you. Near a border, coastline, island or international route such as the Channel Tunnel, that signal may belong to another country, an aircraft or a maritime network.
Roaming charges are based on the network your phone joins, not only on where you are standing. A neighbouring country may fall into a different roaming zone and could result in a daily fee or charges outside your allowance, even when your current location is covered by your package.
This can also happen close to the border between the UK and Ireland or while travelling near a coastline. Check the network name shown on your phone and choose a suitable network manually if it has connected to the wrong destination.
